Most children play with their food but that experience goes largely dormant for many. Kanwar at BBQ Nation, however, developed it into a business. As a child, he was always playing with his food and was interested in trying and creating different dishes. Interested in the aesthetics as well as the taste; Kanwar tried to vary the presentation of dishes even though they might use the exact same recipe. Years of watching cooking shows and reading cook books further piqued his interest and he developed a passion for creating unique dishes.
This passion turned into a business opportunity as he wanted to open up a restaurant that would serve all different kinds of dishes. He believed that such a diverse menu would only succeed in a multicultural area. Newton fit the criteria perfectly as he knew of the growth potential that this district has to offer. Opened less than a year ago, the restaurant already has a growing clientele through word-of-mouth marketing. BBQ Nation thrives on this and employees often hear from customers that they were referred to the restaurant. Kanwar wanted to target everyone with the menu selections and the popularity of the restaurant proves that he has done just that.
Though developing a variety of dishes is important to him, Kanwar also wants to offer plenty of healthy options. Further, believing in quality, Kanwar ensures use of fresh ingredients; everything is made in house when possible, including the dressings and sauces. All of their ingredients are sourced either through local vendors or local suppliers. Kanwar truly believes in developing the local economy and attempts to help other businesses in the area as much as possible by buying locally.
BBQ Nation is built on the idea of being a new type of restaurant where any kind of meal can be found. They are unique in this regard as there is no other restaurant in the area that serves such a variety of meat, including bison, kangaroo and wild boar. The restaurant primarily grills all their dishes, only frying the few exceptions such as onion rings. There is also plenty of room for customer input in the dishes as the chefs at the restaurant regularly alter the dishes to suit different tastes. Customers are also taken into consideration with ingredients as after receiving many requests, the restaurant now serves gluten-free french fries. Kanwar states that his restaurant is particularly popular with body builders who like to tailor their meals with more meat.
BBQ Nation has become so successful that they have had to double their employees as more and more people come into the restaurant. With this increasing popularity, Kanwar hopes to expand into more locations and as always, he will be continuously expanding the menu.
