Natalia and Fidel Gonzalez came to Surrey from Columbia over twenty years ago and raised their two sons here. Mateo, their oldest son, was a paperboy for the Surrey Leader when he was young. Now Mateo works and helps his family while attending KPU. He’s proud of his parents and their decision to open Herencia Latina Market.
The Gonzalez family is happy to be located in Newton and loves the diversity of cultures. “We share similar family values with many people who have chosen Surrey as their home. The South Asian community, in particular, share many cultural similarities, including spice!” Mateo said.
The location is perfect for newcomers to Canada who want to source their favourite food but may not have transportation yet to shop easily. Right across from the bus loop means it’s convenient to take a few bags home to recreate their favourite recipes again.

You can trust that the products you buy from this store are of the highest quality. “If there’s something you miss having from where you came from, let us know! We’d be happy to source it out for you and try to bring it in,” he said.
